What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The CDCP is a federal initiative aimed at helping eligible Canadians access essential dental care without the full financial burden. It’s especially helpful for individuals and families without private dental insurance.

This plan covers various services—from preventive care to major dental procedures—based on income eligibility and specific criteria.

Who Can Apply for the CDCP?

You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan if you meet the following criteria:

  • Are a Canadian resident for tax purposes

  • Have a household net income under $90,000

  • Filed your taxes last year

Do not have access to dental coverage through private insurance, workplace benefits, or government programs.

What Services Are Covered?

CDCP offers coverage for various types of care, which will roll out in phases. Some services may require preauthorization.

Services include:

  • Routine dental exams and cleanings
  • X-rays and fluoride treatments
  • Fillings and tooth extractions
  •  Root canals and urgent procedures
  • Dentures and more (some starting late 2024)

Note: We provide coverage at CDCP-approved fee rates, which may vary from standard clinic fees.

What Will It Cost Me?

The level of coverage depends on your adjusted family income:

Family Net Income CDCP Coverage Your Share
Less than $70,000 100% 0%
$70,000–$79,999 60% 40%
$80,000–$89,999 40% 60%

This structure ensures that lower-income households receive the most support.

When Can You Apply?

We are rolling out the application process in phases, starting with seniors.

  • Ages 87+ – Already eligible

  • Ages 77–86 – Early 2024

  • Ages 72–76 – Mid 2024

  • Ages 70–71—By mid-year

  • All others—rolling out through 2025

You will receive a letter or notification from Service Canada when it’s your turn to apply.
