The CDCP is a federal initiative aimed at helping eligible Canadians access essential dental care without the full financial burden. It’s especially helpful for individuals and families without private dental insurance.
This plan covers various services—from preventive care to major dental procedures—based on income eligibility and specific criteria.
You may qualify for the Canadian Dental Care Plan if you meet the following criteria:
Are a Canadian resident for tax purposes
Have a household net income under $90,000
Filed your taxes last year
Do not have access to dental coverage through private insurance, workplace benefits, or government programs.
CDCP offers coverage for various types of care, which will roll out in phases. Some services may require preauthorization.

The level of coverage depends on your adjusted family income:

We are rolling out the application process in phases, starting with seniors.
Ages 87+ – Already eligible
Ages 77–86 – Early 2024
Ages 72–76 – Mid 2024
Ages 70–71—By mid-year
All others—rolling out through 2025
You will receive a letter or notification from Service Canada when it’s your turn to apply.
