Removal Of Plaque And Tartar

Dental plaque, tartar is removed from teeth to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Bacteria grows on tartar which can cause gingivitis/periodontitis or cavities. Severe periodontitis( gum disease) causes one-third of all tooth loss in adults.

Ultrasonic cavitron or special hand scalers are used to remove the tartar. The duration of cleaning appointment does not depend on number of teeth, it depends upon amount of plaque and tartar build up.The more tartar or plaque deposit, the more time it will take to remove

Dependingon the depth of gums and home care, patients will put on either 6 months, 4 months or 3 months recall or follow up.

Polishing

Polishing paste is used to remove any stains. Depending on the severity of stains grit of polishing paste is chosen.

Fluoride

Fluoride benefits both children and adults. Fluoride only inhibits the growth of harmful oral bacteria and further prevent cavities, but it can not remove decay. The fluoride treatments can be provided in the form of a fluoride containing rinse, foam, gel, or varnish. The treatment may be applied with a brush, tray, or mouthwash. It only takes a few minutes to apply. Your dentist will provide you instructions after fluoride application depending upon type of fluoride used.
